World Series!

November 3rd, 2007 ahowes

So I couldn’t stay away…I flew home for the first two world series games! What an amazing experience and one of the more impulsive moves I’ve made! There is nothing better then world series baseball in Boston. The first game was fun but a complete blowout, 13 to 1, Red Sox. Beckett was dialed in, he’s been the hero of the 2007 playoffs, no question.

The second game was close, 2-1, with the Red Sox prevailing on a great pitching effort by Schilling and lights out pitching from Okie and Paplebon.

The Sox then rolled into Colorado and finished off the series. Two World Series Championships in 4 years!!! Amazing! With the Patriots 3 championships in the last 6 years, and the Celtics relevant again, this is becoming the golden era of Boston sports.

It was also nice being home for a few days, got to play some video games, sleep in my own bed and see the dog!

Millar Strikes Back

May 23rd, 2005 ahowes

Kevin Millar has never met a camera he hasn’t liked. His quote last night about Renteria stuggling at the plate was easily one of his best:

Millar had this to say when the reported brought up the fact that Renteria get $10 million a year: “That’s the business side, it doesn’t matter what you make. I make $3 million and I suck.”

Staying warm thinking of baseball

Former Red Sox coach Dick Berardino also tells the campers a story: “There was this pretty good prospect with a drinking problem. The manager called him into his office. He had two glasses on his desk. One had water, one had Jack Daniels.

“He opened his drawer and pulled out a worm he kept in some dirt. He put the worm in the water and it swam all around the glass. Then he put the worm in the Jack Daniels. It swam for 4-5 seconds and then floated to the top, dead.

” `What does this tell you?’ he asked the rookie.

“The rookie replied, `If you drink a lot, you won’t get worms.’ ”

Alive, but really frickin cold.

So I haven’t updated this blog in a while…there have just been too much going on…the World Series Champion Boston Red Sox (more on that later, I think I am finally able to talk about it rationally), the holidays, side projects, the start of winter in New England.

Anyway, I will try to update more fequently, and give my thoughts on the Red Sox, Vegas, winter and anything else.

Bill Simmons on Terry Francona

October 14th, 2004 ahowes

ESPN.com: Page 2 - Daddy’s deja vu in Game 2: “Every time they show Terry Francona in the dugout, his arms are crossed and he’s rocking back and forth. I think Charlie Babbitt just screamed at him for leaving the toaster oven on again. That’s OK, Terry. Three minutes to Wapner. Just hold tight.”

Pledge allegiance to Red Sox Nation

Once again, Simmons sums up everything I have been thinking the last few weeks about the Sox and October perfectly.

“I’m just not sure that I’m ready to go through this again.” he says. I said the same thing last week.

But here’s the thing, I will watch every moment from now until the end. I already have my playoff tickets through to the World Series. I’ll even leave work early if I have to just so I don’t miss a minute of the playoffs. Yes I am insane. But this is what the Red Sox do to you.

Red Sox in October

September 28th, 2004 ahowes

Back on August 10th, I made a comment that the Red Sox just didn’t have it this year. Obviously, I’m an idiot. After a great run in August and September, which included a run of 21 wins in 23 games pretty much right after I made that comment, the sox have clinched a playoff berth for the second time in two years. See you in October!

GO RED SOX!!!!!!

Revelation

August 10th, 2004 ahowes

I think I have been in denial about this for a little while now, but after some heavy thinking walking home from last night’s game, I just don’t feel it with this year’s red sox team. They just don’t have it. Last years team had it. Had the wind been blowing differently, the sox could have been in the World Series. This year’s team is struggling to find the life support machine, let alone figure out how to use it.

Then again, I hope I am wrong.

Paradise lost, again

May 25th, 2004 ahowes

ESPN.com - Page2 - Paradise lost, again: “Does any of this make sense? Of course not. I’m completely insane. The Red Sox have driven me insane. It’s official.”

This is probably my favorite column about the red sox and last year’s season. It says what we were all feeling.
